Behind The Scenes: Making The “Move On” video

Hey LCs! I hope that by now you have had a chance to check out our video for ‘Move On’.

Making it was such a rewarding experience that I wanted to share a bit of the process with you. This is something that I will do for each short that we put together as I really want everyone to get a peek at how various creative paths unfold. I know that for me the ‘behind the scenes’ was always a much desired feature of artist specials (and sometimes it riveted me more than the final product)

At its heart, Move On is a song about being stuck in an unloving relationship, one that has already died but the narrator (myself) is unwilling to move on. As a result I thought that a cemetery would be more than fitting. Even better one with an abandoned and ruined church. The setting of course that I was drawn to the beautiful St. Chad ruins at Macqueripe. It’s a shame that this site, although it has been deemed a historical heritage one, is nevertheless slowly falling in onto itself. I really believe that it is only a matter of time before the only way we will be able to appreciate it and the beauty of its setting is through photos and videos such as “Move On” :(

Jason and I got ready for filming at 6 a.m. and reached the site a little after 7 a.m. I really wanted that hazy cool early morning light. The shots there, as well as the entire video was shot on my Canon A540 PowerShot. Very lo-fi, but that’s something that I love about Legionaire and what we stand for. Not making excuses or waiting to find the perfect trifecta of events and circumstances to put our dreams in motions. Believe me those events will never happen until you make them happen, with what you have, TODAY!

After we finished shooting at the Church we decided to head to the Macqueripe beach. I was saddened to see the amount of construction that has taken place since I was last there. The embankment and concrete seems to have reduced the amount of actual ‘beach’ that can be leisured upon. Indeed, even though it was now going on 8 a.m the waves often almost came up in parts to the wall. Not really sure where people are supposed to kick back and lounge now? Got some lovely images though, and was very grateful to be able to enjoy a scene like that on a Friday morning when many people are already in bad moods being yelled at by some oaf of a boss :P

Completion of these shots meant that the bulk of footage was done. The main things left were Jason’s shadow shots which were completed by me (and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll recognize them as the scene of the ‘Move On’ single cover shot as well :) ).

Later that evening J had some errands to run, I decided to tag along with my camera which is where I took the final sunset to nighttime footage, including the newly restored QRC building.

After everything was done, it was time to log my footage and take a crash course immersion into the inner workings of my newly acquired Final Cut Studio Pro 7. Several days later the below was the final result :)

Accoutrements:

Some special items deserve their own shoutouts for their many cameos in this sequence.

Bond Girl Mod Ring & Sincerely Sarah Ferguson Locket both by Avon (now discontinued)
Mega Impact Lipstick in Mocha also by Avon (hey, I’m a Rep!) :)

And the owl? Well more on him another time…

I think I’ve covered everything I wanted to for now, but if there’s anything you were curious about just leave it in the comments!

There were so many lovely shots and moments that were left metaphorically on the cutting room floor that I also put this together for y’all :) Hope ya enjoy!
